Bengaluru: The month-long training camp, organised for the budding cricketers of 16 countries by the Board of Control for Cricket in India in conjunction with the ministries of sports and external affairs at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), came to an end on Thursday.

The official Twitter handle of the BCCI posted images with a caption: “In pictures after a recently concluded month-long camp conducted at the NCA in accordance with Prime Minister’s announcement, the BCCI in conjunction with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports hosted participants from 16 different countries.”

On April 19 earlier this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in London, had announced that India will organise cricket training for boys and girls under the age of 16.

18 boys and 17 girls from Botswana, Cameroon, Kenya, Mozambique, Mauritius, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia, Malaysia, Singapore, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Fiji and Tanzania participated in the camp which began on October 1 where they got training under the supervision of NCA head Rahul Dravid.

A customised training programme was chalked out for each participant. The challenge was to assess each of these cricketers coming from varied backgrounds and countries, establishing their level of cricketing competence, designing appropriate programmes and then delivering them.

During their stay, the budding cricketers also got a chance to witness the final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy held on October 25 between Tamil Nadu and Hyderabad at the M Chinnaswamy stadium.
