Tumakuru: Atleast 8 persons died on the spot and as many as 20 passengers sustained serious injuries when a speeding private bus toppled near Palavalli Katte in Pavagada Taluk of Tumakuru District on the morning of Saturday March 19.
As many as 100 people were on the bus including 40 persons on top of the bus at the time of the accident. According to the sources, death toll likely to cross 20 as many have come under the bus. A majority of the passengers were students.
The bus was coming from YN Hosakote to Pavagada town.
The injured have been rushed to Tumakuru hospital. The Pavagada police have reached the spot and is investigating the case.
The preliminary investigations have suggested that the negligence and rash driving by the driver is the reason for the accident.
According to police, more than 100 passengers were travelling in the bus belonging to SVT Travels. The dead bodies of the deceased were found strewn all over the road.
