Tumakur: Maranayakanapalya village in Karnataka witnessed the arrest of three individuals, identified as Bitting Nayak, Baishak Davu, and Duba Kapat, hailing from Odisha. They were apprehended by the Karnataka Forest Department on charges of killing peacocks for their meat.
Brick Factory Workers
The accused were employed at a brick factory in Maranayakanapalya. They allegedly engaged in the systematic killing of peacocks in the village, claiming the meat to be both “sturdy and tasty.”
Police Action and Seizures
Upon receiving information about their activities, the police launched an operation. The authorities seized 1.5 kilograms of raw peacock meat, two chopped legs of the birds, and the cooked meat. They also discovered nets, trap equipment, and vessels used in the preparation of peacock meat.
Testing and Legal Action
The confiscated meat was sent for testing at the Forensic Science Laboratory. The accused individuals are facing legal proceedings under the Preservation of Wildlife Act. Further investigations are ongoing into the matter.
