Tumkuru: As part of the Karnataka Assembly elections, the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat Sveep Committee held a meeting to select ambassadors and the vigilance committee for differently-abled and transgenders.

At the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Y. S. Patil said, Good gem ambassadors can be selected if one is not pressurised while selecting ambassadors. This is evident from the fact that good people have been selected from the District this time.

“Padmashri Saalumarada Thimmakka, Kalashree Dr. Lakshmana Das, Television Artiste Kambandarangaiah, Singer Mohan Kumar, Lily and Manjamma Rathnamma have been selected as election awareness ambassadors. With their inspiration, I hope the District records the highest voter turnout this time,” he said.

Voting should be celebrated like a festival and everyone should come to the polling booth and cast their votes. Postal voting is allowed only for the most disabled, he said and added that it is a tragedy that the voter turnout in Urban constituencies is declining and educated people are opting out of voting.

Speaking on the occasion ZP CEO Dr. Vidyakumari said that the SVEEP Committee is creating voter awareness at every village level and has roped in social workers, cultural stalwarts, representatives of transgenders and differently-abled persons as ambassadors.
