Two phased GP elections on Dec 22, 27; Results on Dec 30

Bengaluru: The dates for Gram Panchayat elections has been announced in the state.

The elections will be held in two phases, on December 22 and 27 and the results will be announced on December 30. The polling will be allowed from 7 am to 5 pm.

The announcement comes in the light of Karnataka High Court providing three weeks’ time to the SEC to announce dates for conduct gram panchayat polls.

It may be recalled that the Gram Panchayat elections were postponed due to the Corona pandemic. A total of 5,762 GPs will face the elections.

As many as 2,930 GPs will have elections in the first phase, while the remaining 2,832 GPs will go for polling in the second phase. The tenure of over 5,000 GPs out of the total 6,025 GPs had lapsed between July-August 2020.

According to schedule, the last date for filing nomination will be December 11 and December 17 for first and second phase respectively, and polling will take place on December 22 and December 27. Dates for re-polling -if necessary- will be on December 24 and December 29. Counting will commence on December 30 from 8 a.m. and results would be declared the same day.

EVMs will be used in Gram Panchayats in Bidar district, while ballot papers will be used in rest of the GPs across the state.
