BENGALURU: Uber is in talks with the Karnataka government to launch its shuttle bus service in Bengaluru, following successful operations in cities like Kolkata and Delhi. The company plans to deploy 200 air-conditioned buses along Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road (ORR), with a focus on the tech corridor, aiming to reduce traffic congestion.
The proposed service will feature buses running at intervals of 2-3 minutes, offering commuters the convenience of pre-booked seats, fixed pick-up points, and drop-off locations. Abhishek Padhye, Uber India and South Asia’s Head of Regional Business Operations, expressed confidence that the service would be well-received, as it has been in other cities. Uber aims to ease the city’s notorious traffic while providing an efficient alternative to private vehicles.
In a related development, Uber has also introduced ‘Uber Moto Women’ in Bengaluru, an on-demand, women-only bike service. The service connects female riders with female drivers, addressing safety concerns and offering flexible earning opportunities for women drivers. This initiative is part of Uber’s commitment to fostering inclusive urban mobility.
With Bengaluru’s ongoing traffic challenges, these initiatives reflect Uber’s efforts to innovate and provide safer, more efficient mobility solutions.
