Bengaluru: The returnees from other places continue to pose a major challenge to Karnataka in tackling the COVID-19 spread.
The state reported 135 new positive cases and three COVID fatalities, on Wednesday, May 27.
With this, the total number of COVID-19 cases has shot up to 2,418 and the number of fatalities has reached 47 in the state so far.
The first of the deceased is a 69-year-old woman from Yadagir, who had returned from Maharashtra and was brought dead on May 20. She later tested positive for COVID-19.
The second fatality is a 49-year-old man from Bidar. He was admitted to a designated hospital in the district after complaints of fever, cough and breathlessness and was a known case of diabetes mellitus. He was diagnosed with a severe acute respiratory illness and died today.
An 82-year-old man from Vijayapurs is the novel coronavirus’ third victim of the day. According to the state health department’s evening news bulletin, the patient was admitted to a hospital with complaints of fever, cough, breathlessness and chest pain. He died on May 26 and his test results came back positive today.
District-wise break-up is as follows: Kalaburgi (28), Yadagir (16), Hasan (15), Bidar (13), Dakshina Kannada (11), Udupi (9), Davanagere (6), Uttara Kannada (6), Bengaluru Urban (6), Raichur (5), Belagavi (4), Chikkaballapura (4), Chikkamagaluru (3), Vijayapura (3), Bengaluru Rural (2), Mandya (1), Kolar (1), Ballari (1), and Tumakuru (1).
In Uttara Kannada district, which has registered six new COVID cases, three are children in the age group of four to 12 years.
