Bengaluru: Twenty eight Lok Sabha members and 12 Rajya Sabha members and members of Karnataka Assembly and Council are set to cast their votes in the Presidential election to be held at Vidhana Soudha on Monday.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah convened Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting at 9 am on Monday.
Secretariat officials have made the necessary arrangements to ensure smooth polling. Instructions for members of the electoral college, comprising members of Lok Sabha,?Rajya Sabha and MLAs have been displayed outside the polling centre, set up in room number 106 in Vidhana Soudha.
The presidential election is witnessing a direct fight between National Democratic Alliance (NDA)?candidate Ram Nath Kovind and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) candidate Meira Kumar. In Karnataka, the electoral college comprises 28 Lok Sabha members, 12 Rajya Sabha members and 224 MLAs. The value of each vote of an MP?is 708, while that of an MLA in Karnataka is 131.
All the three major political parties have issued written instruction to their MPs and legislators to exercise their franchise on Monday. JD(S) which has been vocal against the two national parties has announced its decision to support Meira Kumar in the Presidential poll.
