A security guard working at a retail outlet in Kengeri, Bengaluru, was taken into custody for reportedly assaulting and indecently exposing himself to a woman during a dispute, officials confirmed on Monday.
The accused, named Chandrahasa, was employed as a watchman at Vishal Mega Mart, while the complainant, Usharani, owns a fish stall directly across from the store. The incident unfolded at approximately 9 PM on August 2, following a heated exchange regarding territorial space.
According to Usharani’s statement to the authorities, she attempted to approach the store supervisor to escalate the issue. However, Chandrahasa allegedly became verbally abusive, then attacked her with a sharp object, and subsequently exposed himself in front of onlookers.
A passerby witnessed the altercation and immediately dialed emergency services (112). Responding officers arrived swiftly at the scene, intervened, and apprehended the suspect.
The accused has been charged under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
- Use of criminal force with intent to outrage a woman’s dignity
- Sexual misconduct
- Threatening behavior
Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the matter. The incident has sparked discussions around public safety and the need for swift legal action in similar cases.
