In the heart of Bengaluru, residents of a prestigious apartment complex recently staged a protest, demanding access to water amidst severe scarcity. The upscale Shapoorji Pallonji Parkwest complex in Central Bengaluru witnessed a mass demonstration where inhabitants, residing in flats valued at approximately Rs 2 crore each, raised placards and chanted slogans echoing their plea for water.
The protest ensued following an announcement by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) regarding a 10 percent reduction in water supply to facilities and societies consuming between 40 lakh and 2 crore litres of water daily, as reported by the Free Press Journal.
In response to the residents’ outcry, the management of Shapoorji Pallonji Real Estate released a statement affirming their efforts to address the water demands of the residents. The spokesperson expressed regret over the water crisis gripping Bengaluru due to groundwater depletion and drying borewells, emphasizing the developer’s commitment to aiding the residents amidst the crisis.
Despite attempts to procure water through tankers to mitigate the shortage, challenges persist as even the suppliers are grappling with similar issues. The statement highlighted the operational status of the water treatment facility within the complex, ensuring residents access to usable, quality water.
While expressing optimism for relief with the onset of monsoon, Shapoorji Pallonji Real Estate urged citizens to adopt water-conservation measures in the interim. The hope remains that collaborative efforts and responsible water usage will alleviate the plight of Bengaluru’s residents amidst this challenging period.
