A heartwarming incident unfolded at Bengaluru’s Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal on Wednesday, where a pregnant woman gave birth to a baby boy right on the railway platform with help from fellow passengers and quick-acting railway officials.
The woman, experiencing intense labour pains while waiting at the station, was unable to reach a hospital in time. Stepping in immediately, Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable Amrutha took the lead in assisting with the delivery, supported by female staff and kind-hearted passengers.
The birth took place on July 30, and both mother and child received immediate care at the scene. They were then transported to a nearby hospital for further medical attention. Railway officials later confirmed that both are in stable and healthy condition.
The South Western Railway, RPF India, and the Divisional Railway Manager of Bengaluru division praised the compassionate actions of staff and travelers via their official social media handles, calling it an inspiring example of teamwork and humanity.
Constable Amrutha, in particular, received accolades online for her courage and presence of mind, with many users commending her swift response.
In a related event, another baby was delivered onboard the SMVT Bengaluru–New Tinsukia Superfast Express at Jolarpet Station. A 28-year-old woman from Assam gave birth to a girl early Tuesday, again with assistance from onboard staff.
These back-to-back deliveries have drawn admiration for Indian Railways’ preparedness and the human spirit shown by both personnel and passengers.
