Bengaluru: A surge in fraud cases has been observed lately, and a new incident has surfaced. A man, initially met through a matrimonial website, deceitfully captured a private photo of a woman, feigned intentions of marriage, coerced her into a compromising video call, and fraudulently extorted Rs 1.50 lakh from her. He stands accused of deception.
Following a complaint filed by a 41-year-old woman residing in Nagarabhavi, an FIR was registered against Talluri Arvind Choudhary (44) at the cyber crime police station of the west division.
The woman, seeking marriage, had uploaded her photo and details on a matrimony website. In April 2023, Talluri Aravind Chowdary, the accused, approached her with promises of marriage. Enchanted by his words, she shared personal information. The accused obtained a private photo from her and subsequently hacked her Facebook, Instagram, and Gmail accounts. Later, he changed his stance, threatening to make a compromising video call unless she paid him money. Additionally, he warned of disclosing private photos to her friends and relatives.
Distressed by the situation, the woman transferred Rs 1.50 lakh to the accused in installments through online transactions. The accused, proceeded to send the woman’s personal photos to her relatives and friends via WhatsApp. Subsequently, the woman filed a complaint with the cyber crime police against Talluri Aravind Chowdary. An investigation has been initiated, and the police are actively searching for the accused.
