Bengaluru:In a shocking incident, a 52-year-old woman, identified as Vanitha, allegedly assaulted her 56-year-old husband, Badri, with a kitchen knife after he declined to take her to Singapore with him. The altercation arose when Badri expressed dissatisfaction with Vanitha’s housekeeping skills, claiming she failed to maintain cleanliness.

According to Badri’s complaint to the police, the incident occurred on a Saturday afternoon. The authorities responded to the complaint and arrested Vanitha under IPC Section 324, which pertains to voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means. She was subsequently released on station bail. Police investigations revealed that Vanitha was distressed about being left behind while Badri took their 20-year-old son, Naveen, to Singapore.

Badri, a Singaporean citizen originally from Tamil Nadu, has been residing in Singapore for the past 25 years due to his employment with a multinational corporation. He married Vanitha from Bengaluru in 2002, and the family has been residing in Bengaluru since then. They would occasionally visit Singapore, and in September, Badri intended for his family to permanently relocate with him.

The strained relationship between the couple escalated on January 19 when Badri informed Vanitha that she would not be accompanying him to Singapore. An argument ensued, leading to the violent episode.

Narrating the assault, Badri stated that he was attacked with a knife on his head and hand while he was in bed around 2.30 pm. Vanitha allegedly stabbed him in the back when he attempted to defend himself. In a distressing turn of events, she also threw water laced with chilli powder on his face.

Taking swift action, Badri and Naveen managed to lock Vanitha out of the bedroom and called the police helpline 112. The authorities arrived promptly, convinced Vanitha to open the door, and subsequently transported Badri to a nearby hospital, where he received around 14 stitches for his injuries.

Following the incident, Vanitha was detained by the police, spending the night in an NGO. She reportedly resisted eating until Naveen returned. A senior police officer suggested that Vanitha’s actions were a result of emotional turmoil over Badri’s decision to take Naveen with him to Singapore, leaving her behind.

Authorities suspect underlying issues in the relationship, with Badri and Naveen expressing dissatisfaction with Vanitha’s conduct. Currently, father and son are residing in a hotel. The officer added that there might be differences in modern outlook contributing to the strained family dynamics.
