In a shocking case of violence over rejection, an 18-year-old girl named Vaishali from Manchanabele village in Chikkaballapura district, Karnataka, was allegedly attacked with toilet acid cleaner by a relative, Anand Kumar, after she declined his marriage proposal, police said.
The incident occurred on Tuesday outside the victim’s home. According to police, Anand Kumar—believed to be in his early 20s—had earlier proposed marriage, but Vaishali had refused. Enraged by her decision, he poured a toilet cleaning solution on her face and then attempted suicide by setting himself on fire after dousing himself in diesel.
Fortunately, officials confirmed that the acid cleaner used was not highly corrosive, and Vaishali sustained only minor injuries such as rashes and redness, without facial disfigurement.
However, Anand Kumar suffered over 70% burn injuries and is currently in critical condition.
A case has been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Chikkaballapura police station, and further investigation is underway.
The disturbing incident echoes a similar Valentine’s Day attack in Andhra Pradesh earlier this year, where a young woman was stabbed and doused with acid by a classmate after rejecting his proposal.
