In a tragic incident that has shocked the academic community, a 22-year-old college student from Theerthahalli in Shivamogga district died of a heart attack on Wednesday morning while staying at a hostel in Sringeri.
The deceased has been identified as Disha, a final-year Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) student at JCBM College, Sringeri. According to available information, she suddenly collapsed in the hostel premises after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Sudden collapse inside hostel
Sources said Disha was in her hostel when she reportedly complained of discomfort before collapsing. Fellow students and hostel staff rushed to her aid, but she was declared dead soon after. The sudden nature of the incident has left students and staff deeply shaken.
College authorities immediately informed the local police and Disha’s family members about the incident.
Police and college response
The Sringeri police visited the hostel, conducted preliminary inquiries and registered a case of unnatural death. The body was sent for post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death.
College officials expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family and said counselling support would be extended to students affected by the incident.

The incident has once again raised concerns about sudden cardiac deaths among young adults, a trend that has been reported across Karnataka and other parts of the country in recent years. Medical experts have repeatedly stressed the importance of regular health check-ups, stress management and early detection of underlying conditions, even among the youth.
