Karwar: Indian Coast Guard (ICG) interceptor boat ICGS C-155, on Thursday, September 20 rescued fishermen on board a Karwar fishing boat-Yashwardhan bearing registration number IND TN 15 MM 5844.
Acting on information given by a local fisherman to ICG station at Karwar at 1.30pm about the fishing boat reporting hull damage and flooding, Indian Coast Guard diverted its interceptor boat to the spot to aid in the rescue of stranded fishermen on board.
The fishermen were stranded on board the stricken vessel some 10 nautical miles from Karwar off Loliem – Polem along Karnataka and Goa border. ICGS C-155 based at Karwar on routine security patrol was immediately diverted to render assistance to fishing boat, which on arrival took 17 crew on-board. The remaining 12 crew with five crew of ICGS C-155 were present on board the fishing boat Yashwardhan for deflooding.
Coast Guard officials said ICG diver too has been stationed on board the fishing boat and plans to tow it to Karwar has been drawn up.
