Karwar: The Devbhag and Majali Fishermen’s Fighters’ Committee on Thursday September 22 submitted a petition to the Government through the District Administration, demanding the abandonment of the proposed fishing harbour Project in Majali.
Fishermen who arrived from Majali, Devbhag and other parts gathered near the Deputy Commissioner’s Office of the City and demanded that the construction of the port would cause problems for the fishermen and that the project should be aborted soon.
Most of the residents of the villages of Majali, Hippalli, Dandebagh, Nechkanabagh, Bawal and Devabhag of Karwar Taluk are involved in the fishing profession and have adopted various types of fishing profession such as Andi Bale, Beesu Bale, Marana Bale, Yedi Bale along with mechanised fishing.
