Karwar: The announcement of ticket to V. S. Patil, who quit the BJP and joined the Congress party, was not right, said Congress Leader Laxman Banasode.
Speaking at the District Press Club in the City, He warned that he would contest as a rebel candidate if the Congress did not give him a ticket. “If I am not given a ticket for Yellapur Constituency in the District, I will contest as a rebel candidate, he added.
When the aspirants were asked to apply, if no one from Yellapur Constituency applied, High Command asked me to pay Rs 2 Lakh. I applied for the ticket as per KPCC direction. I have worked faithfully in the Congress for the last several years. A person who has worked for the party and is in the party organisation should be given a ticket, he added.
Instead, if tickets are given to migrants, won’t it be like marginalising the original workers?” he asked. V. S. Patil has been given a ticket for this year’s Assembly elections. But B form should be given to me to contest on Congress ticket, he stressed. If not, I will contest as a Congress rebel candidate, he asserted.
“There are around 40,000 Dalit votes in Yellapur Constituency which will help us win,” he said.
