Karwar: For the past several days, there has been a server problem at the Tahasildar’s Office here depriving people of the facilities provided by the Government. This has resulted in people coming from different parts of the Taluk to come and go back. The GSC server problem in the Food and Civil Supplies Department has forced them to wait for months for the ration card correction.

Applications are being made on a daily basis in various Taluks of the District, including Karwar, for availing services such as inclusion of name in the card, deletion of name, change of address, name correction, and change of fair price shop to get a new ration card. But for the last one-and-a-half months, due to a server problem in the Department, people have to struggle to get their applications disposed of.

More than 400 applications are pending due to server issues in the Karwar Tahasildar’s Office alone. Moreover, more than 50 people are going back everyday tired of waiting for amendments. Others, who have added their names for medical treatment, childbirth and other reasons are waiting for an emergency facility. People are tired of wandering to the office.

Only two hours are being given for timely disposal of the application, which is becoming a problem as everyone across the State is working at the same time.

“People fight with us and get angry. The matter has also been brought to the notice of the Authorities,” a staff said.

For the past several days, hundreds of people, including the elderly and pregnant women, have been coming to the Tahasildars Office every day and going back. People are suffering due to this. There is no problem in visiting the Tahasildar’s Office. But whenever people come, the work doesn’t happen. People complain that those coming from far away are forced to leave their day-to-day work.

Karwar Grade II Tahasildar Sridevi Bhat said the ration card online system was leased out by NIC company and one can work only for a few hours as it was maintained by the same comoany. As a result, only a few applications have been disposed of. However, she said she has received a few applications and will dispose of all the applications in a week’s time to ensure that there is no problem.
