Kundapura: Molahalli Ganesh Shetty was arrested on Friday May 27 on charges of aiding and abetting the suicide of Kundapura-based businessman Katte Bhojanna.
Bhojanna shot himself in the head with a handgun on the verandah of Ganesh Shetty’s house on May 26. Later, a suicide note describing the reasons for the suicide was found.
The note mentioned two people written in Kannada; gold jeweller Molahalli Ganesh Shetty and broker Hangalur Ismael. In February 2013, the deceased allegedly invested Rs. 3.34 Crores and 5 kg in a scheme promoted by the two. The same, however, was not returned, leading to a significant financial loss as well as mental anguish.
Ganesh Shetty was arrested and brought before the magistrate based on the evidence. Shetty was remanded in custody for 14 days.
Hangalur Ismail, the second accused, has been absconding. According to police sources, efforts are being made to track his whereabouts.
Katte Bhojanna’s final rituals were held on Friday at a cremation near Chiikansal in Kundapura.
