Mangaluru: Those who love fruits must head to the ‘Vasanthotsava’ at the Dr Shivarama Karanth Pilikula Nisargadhama on sunday. The Biological Park at Moodushedde on the outskirts of the city, the venue of the fest, is gearing up in right earnest, to host the one-day fruits extravaganza ‘Pilikula Vasanthotsava’ which will be inaugurated on Sunday at 11 am.
The event, which is intended to make local varieties of fruits available to people and to acquaint the younger generation with the local fruits and vegetables, at the Pilikula Nisargadhama premises. The event will be hosted in association with the forest department, horticulture department and agriculture department.
Addressing a news conference on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said that the Vasanthotsava would include the exhibition and sale of local varieties of fruits and vegetables, sale of saplings and seeds and also delicacies made out of the vegetables and fruits at the venue.
Local varieties of fruits like jackfruits, mangoes, jamun/ black plum (Nerale), Kokum (Birinda) etc will be kept for sale for the visitors to relish. Various delicacies made from the local fruits such as payasa (pudding), halwa, chips, kabab, sheera, icecream, wine, holige, jilebi and others will be available for sale at the Utsava.
Organic products procured from organic growers and ayurvedic products will also be available during the event.
Forest department will make arrangement for sale of saplings of sandalwood, teakwood, and other varieties of wood.
Nisargadhama Executive Director Prabhakar Sharma, Director H Jayaprakash Bhandary, governing council member N G Mohan, Prof of Botany Chandrashekhar Chowta, joint director of horticulture department Yogesh and joint director of agriculture department Kempegowda were present.
