Sirsi: Member of Parliament Anant Kumar Hegde, on April 22, filed a complaint with the Sirsi police, stating that he received a death threat over a telephone call on the same day.
The complaint was filed by the Union Minister’s personal assistant, Suresh Govind on his behalf.
The complaint states that minister Hegde received multiple calls, the first being made from a number +4044 to his mobile number at around 2.17 am on Sunday. He did not answer the call as he rightly suspected that it was an internet call. The second call was made to the minister’s landline and came from a number reading 004044000, which was answered by his wife Roopa. The caller, speaking in Hindi, asked who was on the line and disconnected the call once Roopa answered. This was at around 2.20 am.
Another call was made to the landline at around 2.25 am, which was once again disconnected when it was answered by Roopa. The minister’s landline received one last call which, this time, was answered by the minister himself. When he identified himself on the call, the caller threatened to kill the minister. A verbal battle followed the death threat soon after which the minister hung up, not allowing the caller to abuse him further.
Govind then registered a complaint with the Sirsi police station at around 6.10 pm on Sunday.
