Mangaluru: Fraudulent Effort to Extort Money Using the Name of Police Commissioner Anup Agarwal
In a concerning development, an attempt to extort money using the name of Mangaluru‘s police commissioner, Anup Agarwal, has come to light. The perpetrators are trying to extort money via WhatsApp by not sparing even the police commissioner himself. Using a fake number, the extortionists have messaged demanding money while impersonating him.
The extortionists have used the names of the police commissioners, stating, “I am in the hospital, UPI is not working, please send some money. I will repay you within an hour,” in a message sent using the number 8319051976. This incident has been reported by the general public to raise awareness about the false message sent using the commissioner’s name.
Residents are advised not to respond to such messages and to treat them with caution. Mangaluru’s Police Commissioner Anup Agarwal has clarified that it is a false message and that his name has been used without authorization.
This incident serves as a reminder to remain vigilant against fraudulent attempts to extort money and to verify the authenticity of any unusual requests for funds or information.
