Mangaluru: As our lifestyles and food habits have changed over the decades, people have been finding it more and more difficult to control the increase in their weight and waistlines. Overweight and obese people have the added problem of diseases such as heart problems, diabetes etc. While becoming slim and trim may not be on everyone’s mind, becoming healthier definitely is a big concern for many of us. Maintaining an optimum level of wellness is absolutely crucial if one wants to live a stress-free and healthy life.
To help Mangaluru’s residents attain a healthier state of being, Archibald “Archi” Moras started ‘Archi’s Wellness Centre’ a little more than a year ago on October 7, 2017. At this centre, treatment, as well as guidance, is provided to help achieve one’s weight and inch loss goals. The unique feature of this centre is that sessions are held for men and women separately.
“I have been to other wellness centres in the city. What I noticed is that they are unisex and men and women receive treatment together. I decided to set up a centre where men and women are treated separately so that they are more comfortable,” founder-owner of the centre, Archi Moras told Newskarnataka.com. The men’s section is located on the ground floor of the centre whereas the women’s section is on the first floor. Separate toilet facilities are also provided on each floor of the centre.
Archi’s Wellness Centre is situated in a prime location in the city and is open from 7 AM to 7 PM every day, except on Christmas, Deepavali, Eid and Independence Day. Located right next to Abharan Jewellers in Shivabagh, the centre has spacious parking for its clients so that they don’t have to worry about where to park their vehicles.
At this centre, one can avail services such as body composition analysis, nutritional consultation, healthy weight reduction, inch loss therapy, hair loss treatment, skin and laser treatment (for removal of unwanted hair), Yoga (for men and women), cavitation (use of machines for advanced tummy reduction) and ‘bellyfit’ classes (dance classes for women only). Services are provided based on appointments. “Weight loss, inch loss and laser treatment are our most popular services,” Archi explains. The centre also does not give its clients anything to consume or surgery to help with the weight loss or inch loss, he added.
At Archi’s, healthcare professionals will help clients choose the best plan, monitor their progress and advise and support them. The centre provides clients with four therapists-two for men and two for women. “We have separate personnel for men and women. Only our Yoga instructor, Ravindra takes classes for women and men together,” he added.
The centre has a clientele of about 15 persons per day. Archi is very proud of this achievement as he has done the bare minimum when it comes to advertising. “I have not done any advertising for my centre. People come here on their own based on recommendations from our existing clients. We have customers coming from Mangaluru, Udupi and Kundapur. We have even had a customer come to us from Honnavar. It is all by word of mouth,” He said. For this, Archi is thankful to the people of Mangaluru who have supported him. “Even without any advertisements, I have been able to run my business successfully for more than a year. I am very grateful to the Mangalureans for this,” he added.
The centre also recently introduced ‘bellyfit’- a holistic fitness programme designed for women, which is a combination of dance aerobics, Yoga and Pilates. The classes are conducted by Sharlaine Sequeira and are held between 8 AM and 9 AM and 6 PM and 7 PM. They also recently started a beauty parlour in the women’s section of the centre for the benefit of the female clients. This is open from 9 AM to 5 PM.
Speaking about the additional services being provided at the centre, Archi said, “I am now also a Certified Diabetes Educator. I want to help diabetics reduce their reliance on medicines and insulin and enable them to lead a normal life with a strict diet. Diabetics have to take a lot of medicines which in turn cause them more harm in the long run. With a strict diet, they can reduce their sugar and soon be free of the pills and insulin.” He also mentioned that since he started providing this service, he has had one client who was able to reduce her blood sugar within a few days based on his advise and diet recommendations.
When asked about his plans for expansion, Archi said that he will be opening two centres in the Dakshina Kannada district by the end of this year.
