Bantwal: A bison was found fallen in a gobar gas pit in Kadabettu village, here on Saturday, May 4.
The bison had slipped into a gobar gas pit belonging to Alfred D’Souza, a resident of Purlottu.
When the family members of Alfred had gone near the pit to dump waste, they saw the bison and immediately rang up the forest department officials.
Immediately, the Bantwal Sub Divisional Conservator of Forest, Suresh rushed to the spot to lift the bison out of the pit.
“As it was resisting the rescue attempts scared by the crowd gathered, a JCB had to be deployed to dig the ground and lift up the bison carefully”, said Suresh.
According to the forest officials, the bison might have fallen into the pit yesterday night while chasing another animal.
Forest department staff Vinay, Bhaskar, Smitha and Anitha along with environmentalist Kiran Pinto were present.
Scared bison seriously injures 2 girls
After a three-hour-long rescue operation, the bison was finally brought out by forest officials with the help of public.
As soon as it came out, it ran for its life towards the forest.
But unfortunately, a few humans had to bear the brunt of the scared bison’s rage.
A 13-year-old girl Harsha and Anganwadi worker Chandravathi were on their way home at Kandadi of Kadabettu.
At the same time, the bison attacked both and severely injured them.
While Harsha’s hand was fractured, Chandravathi has sustained serious injuries.
Both were rushed immediately to the Wenlock Hospital of Mangaluru.
