Mangaluru: Former MLC and BJP leader Monappa Bhandary on January 2, alleged that the officer who enrolls the names in the voter’s list of Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), has been doing so without verifying the documents.

Addressing a press meet at the BJP office here on January 22, Monappa Bhandary alleged that several bundles of applications had been sent to the election officer’s table, to enroll such names in the voters’ list. The applications have no proper address and documents but they have been accepted by the officer known as Mohammmed. “Our party workers have a proof of this”, he said.

He also said that the applications were filed by the students who had come from Kerala to the city for education. The officers Mohammed and Santhosh are accepting the applications to enroll the names in the voters’ list without verifying them, he charged.

He further alleged this was being done in support of MLA J R Lobo. “From January to November 30 of 2017, nearly 10000 names have been enrolled in the voters’ list. “Today we have found that over 700 applications have been submitted to the election officer in a bundle of bag”, he added.

He also said that BJP would file a complaint against it with the State Election Commission and Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada.

DC should intervene in the case and should hold an inquiry into the names enrolled from January to November 30 in 2017, he added.
