Mangaluru: On his visit to the city to take part in a programme, State Janata Dal (Secular) head and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy stated that the two national parties, BJP and Congress were playing games with their vote banks. He also spoke in favour of the farmers of the state in his address to the press at the Circuit House on Saturday, November 12.

“It has become a trend these days that if a worker of a particular outfit is murdered, there is a political stigma attached to it. The culprit should be dealt with seriously and the affiliation of the victim to any political party has nothing to do with the murder”, Kumaraswamy said referring to the recent murders of BJP and pro-Hindu workers.

Tipu Jayanti did not Serve the Purpose

“The state government was hell bent on celebrating Tipu Jayanti despite a series of protests and unrest in the state, but of what use has it been? Those who respect Tipu will celebrate his birth anniversary in their own manner and the state did not have to make a big issue out of it. Amid all the chaos, Minister Tanveer Sait was allegedly involved in browsing porn pictures at a Tipu Jayanti event and the BJP lost their calm in the same matter. For what joy was Tipu Jayanti celebrated?”, Kumaraswamy questioned.

Government should be Farmer Friendly

Keeping the state government at the fore, Kumaraswamy said that the farmers in rural areas have been suffering for the past three years as their crops have failed due to drought. “The state government had submitted a report to the centre mentioning a loss to the tune of Rs. 16,000 Crore due to lack of rains. The chief minister is moving from district to district just for the heck of it but not to actually conduct an assessment of the situation”, he alleged.

Speaking about the suicides committed by farmers, Kumaraswamy said that the Government must take extensive measures to stop the farmers from ending their lives, by supporting them in every way possible.

Demonetisation of Currency was essential but Problematic

“The JD(S) party workers will definitely not have a problem with this move as we hardly get money since we are a regional party. The demonetisation of high denominations of currency is definitely a good move and I congratulate the prime minister for it. But there are a lot of instances where the people go through a lot of pain and inconvenience. Though this move was very much necessary, there could have been a better way of going about it”, he concluded.
