Mangaluru: A well-dressed bridal couple, who were expected at a marriage hall, were seen holding a broom and cleaning the road in Urwa on Sunday, April 28. The couple was participating in the Swaccha Bharat Abhiyan before tying the knot.
As getting married is considered to be a very special moment in everyone’s life, Shivu Puttur and Suma Kodikal wanted to make their wedding day even more memorable and so, they took up the broom and participated in the Swaccha Bharath Abhiyan of the Ramakrishna Mission.
The couple have been active volunteers in the Ramakrishna Mission’s ‘Swaccha Bharat’ campaign for the past four years. Though their marriage was fixed on Sunday, they did not want to miss the cleanliness drive. They flagged off the 21st Shramadan of the 5th phase Swaccha Bharat campaign of the Ramakrishna Mission in Urwa and cleaned the road, after which they proceeded towards the marriage hall.
After the cleanliness drive, Suma Kodikal said, “Swacch Mangaluru is our dream. I feel proud to have been part of this Abhiyan for the last four years. We have never missed a chance to volunteer in this Abhiyan on any Sunday so, we wanted to participate in today’s Abhiyan before proceeding to the marriage hall. We felt proud to flag off the Abhiyan today.”
Former MLC Captian Ganesh Karnik, who also participated in the cleanliness drive said, “The fact that the volunteers do not want to miss a day of this Abhiyan, even on their wedding day, is proof of their concern and commitment.”
