In a tragic incident, a private bus overturned at Chalingal on the national highway on Monday, March 18, in the evening.
The driver of the bus got killed and 20 people including students sustained injuries in the mishap.
The deceased was Madhoor resident Chetan Kumar (37). The bus was Kannur-bound from Mangaluru. The accident happened near Peria grama panchayat office, Chalingal.
An alternative route was charted at Chalingal to construct a polling booth as the highway is being developed. The bus driver lost control of the vehicle he was driving at a road curve and the bus got toppled. Those who were stuck under the bus were pulled out by the locals, fire brigade personnel, and the police and rushed to the hospital.
