Sullia: A delegation from the Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Co-operative Limited (CAMPCO) met Union Minister for Commerce Suresh Prabhu demanding fair price for rubber produce and a ban on imports to protect Indian growers.

In the year 2012, the market price for rubber was hovering around Rs 240 per kg but has dropped by almost 50 percent to Rs 125 per kg in the last few years. Rubber growers are not getting the input costs on produce and hence are facing innumerable problems, stated the delegation which sought protection for growers by imposing curbs on rubber imports.

Eight states in the country are producing rubber and lakhs of families depend on the industry for livelihood and hence there is an immediate need to increase the import duty on rubber to protect the local growers, the delegation apprised the minister, who in turn assured of taking appropriate measures to solve the problems.

CAMPCO President S R Satish Chandra, Director Krishnaprasad Madtila and Executive Director Suresh Bhandary were part of the delegation.
