Mangaluru: Close on the heels of several untoward incidents in the recent past, a student leader associated with Student Federation of India ( SFI) came under severe attack on social media, where some suspected right wing activists used her study tour image uploaded on Facebook (FB) last year to troll her. She has lodged a complaint following harassment at the cyber crime branch demanding immediate action against those responsible.
Madhuri, daughter of Bharathi, a Bolar resident came under severe attack on social media when some suspected right wing activists alleged her of having intense relationship with a Muslim youth. Incidentally, they have selectively used her college study tour selfie uploaded on FB last year to defame her. SFI activists named Humza, Suhas and Ganesh Bolar too were part of that study tour undertaken by Madhuri last year, where a group selfie was taken during the travel.
They have shared the image on social media accusing a youth named “Humza of having close relationship with Hindu girls” and have cautioned fellow right wing activists to keep vigil on Humza’s movement, indirectly hinting at “Love Jihad.”
Disturbed by the development, Madhuri met Mangaluru City Police Commissioner T R Suresh at his office accompanied by her mother, who too is linked to the CPM-led Beedi Workers Union. Later, they lodged a complaint at the cyber crime cell.
She has cited the recent death of a girl from Mudigeri under mental duress and frequent “moral policing” attacks on innocents by the right wing activists in her petition. She has requested the police to book men responsible for causing her mental harassment and attempting to defame her on social media.
Police have registered an FIR and begun investigations.
