Mangaluru: After a successful cancer screening camp held at Mangalore City Corporation depot in Kulur, Yenepoya Dental College in association with Yen Onco Center conducted a screening camp at Kallapu in Thokkottu for the police personnel of south subdivision and their family.
On Friday, 20 January, a cancer awareness and screening camp was organized as a part of the silver jubilee celebration of Yenepoya Institute. A detailed talk on common cancer was delivered to the gathering by experts from the college.
ACP of South subdivision, Shruthi inaugurated the programme. Dr. Laxminarayan Sonde spoke on General Cancer, Dr. Imran Pasha spoke on oral cancer, Dr. Rachana Prabhu on Breast cancer and Dr. Prajna Kini on Cervical Cancer. The talk was was then followed by screening for oral, breast and cervical cancer.
Success of cancer screening at MCC depot
The cancer awareness and screening session conducted by Yenepoya Dental College and Yen Onco Center identified several cancer causing lesions among the Mangaluru City Corporation workers.
According to the observations of Dr. Rachana Prabhu, as much as 99% of the 282 screened workers had the habit of tobacco use in either of the forms. During the screening, as much as 60% of the workers had cancer causing lesions in their mouths which leads to definite oral cancer.
Yenepoya team then advised the workers to visit the hospital for treatment, so as to remove the lesions and cure them from potential cancer. Cancerthon referral cards were also given to the workers which entitles them of free investigations and 50% off on several other tests.
