Dr. Vidya Kumari, Deputy Commissioner of Udupi, announced the seizure of Rs 8.80 lakh in cash within the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency limits under the model code of conduct.
Addressing the media at her office, Vidya Kumari stated that seven FIRs have been filed for violations of the poll code, with a total of 241 complaints received, including those via the CVIGil app.
Voter Statistics and Election Schedule:
The constituency boasts a total of 15,76,264 registered voters. The notification for filing nominations will be issued on March 28, with the process commencing from the same day. The last date for filing nominations is April 4, with scrutiny scheduled for April 5 and April 8 designated as the last date for withdrawal of nominations. Polling is set for April 26, 2024.
Guidelines for Nomination Filing:
During nomination filing, only five members, including the candidate, are permitted inside the returning officer’s office. A candidate can file a maximum of four nominations with a one-time deposit amount of Rs 25,000. SC/ST candidates are required to pay Rs 12,500 along with their caste certificate.
Other Electoral Regulations:
Candidates are mandated to create a new bank account for election expenditure, with all expenses to be operated from the same account. Election expenditure accounting will commence from the day of nomination filing. Permissions for election-related campaign activities should be obtained exclusively through the Suvidha app. Additionally, the usage of loudspeakers is prohibited between 10 pm and 6 am.
Enforcement and Assistance:
Complaints from the electorate can be filed through the CVIGIL app, facilitating swift action. Response teams aim to reach reported spots within 15-20 minutes. Mamata Devi, ADC, and Prathik Bayal, CEO of the Zilla Panchayat, were also present during the announcement.
