Mangaluru: Opposing the transfer of IAS officer Rohini Sindhuri, members of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Saturday, September 28.

Stating that she had been transferred to the labour department only six months ago, they demanded that she be reinstated.

CITU district general secretary Sunil Kumar Bajal said, “Although lakhs of people lost their properties due to the recent floods, the state government has failed to compensate them. The MPs and other elected representatives have failed to bring relief funds from the Central Government to provide food and shelter for the affected. Instead of responding to the grievances of the public, the state government is simply transferring the IAS officers. Sindhuri was transferred because she did not mobilise the funds of the construction workers to compensate the flood victims.”

Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) district president B K Imthiyaz alleged that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union Government has been favouring the corporates and has not responded to the demands of the common people. The state government has proved that it is an anti-people government as it has been trying to take away the funds meant for construction workers, to compensate the flood victims. As Sindhuri has done nothing wrong, she should not be transferred, he said.

Hundreds of protesters shouted slogans against both the state and central governments during the protest.

It can be recalled that IAS officer Rohini Sindhuri was transferred out of the Labour Department just six months into her posting. The move has also triggered outrage on social media with many calling for her reinstatement.
