Mangaluru: In order to mount pressure on the union government to speed up the work on flyovers at Pumpwell and Thokkottu, the Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee will be organising a padayatra from Talapady to Pumpwell Circle on January 28.
Informing about the scheduled padayatra, former MLA J R Lobo told reporters at the District Congress Office on Friday, January 25 that the padayatra would be flagged off from Talapady by Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Minister U T Khader in the presence of MLC and district Congress president Hareesh Kumar and former minister Ramanath Rai at around 9 AM. The padayatra will reach Pumpwell circle at around 4.30 PM and a massive public meeting will be organised to condemn the inactiveness of MP Nalin Kumar Kateel”, he informed.
Pointing at the recent meeting by the MP wherein the officials of the contract company were threatened with criminal case by Nalin Kumar Kateel, Lobo said, “Why is the MP silent and has not taken any measures to speed up the flyover work so far? What was the necessity of abusing the officials of the contract company when the election is nearing?”, he questioned and cautioned of intensifying the protest if no measures are taken to complete the flyover work immediately.
Mayor Bhaskar K, Congress leaders like A C Vinayraj, Sudheer T K, Neeraj Pal, Vishwas Kumar Das, Kallige Tharanath Shetty among others were present.
