Mangaluru: “Though the Congress government was only able to provide LPG connections to 5 crore families after the introduction of domestic gas in India, the Narendra Modi-led union government has given LPG connections to over 6 crore families in a short span of four and half years”, informed MP and Parliamentary Standing Committee of Petroleum and Natural Gas Chairman Prahlad Joshi on Friday, January 25.

He was addressing the gathering at a mass convention of Prime Minister Uhjwal Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries and distribution of PPG connection to beneficiaries under the second phase of Ujwal scheme, at Golden Park Associates Ground on B C Road. Prahlad Joshi said, “After the union government introduced the scheme PMUY, women saved maximum time which was earlier being used to collect firewood, washing of vessels among others. As Narendra Modi himself experienced the difficulties involved in the cooking without domestic gas, he decided to create a smoke-free country by giving LPG connection to each and every family of our country”, he said.

Meanwhile, he highlighted the impact of the scheme in Karnataka. He advised all the concerned to put in all the efforts to make Karnataka the first kerosene-free state in the country.

Minister of State for Drinking Water and Sanitation Ramesh Jigajinagi launched the scheme by handing over the LPG connections to over 40 beneficiaries and lauded the efforts of all in exceeding the expected targets and releasing more than 6 crore connections across the country. Joshi also assured that the ministry under the leadership of Narendra Modi shall always further the cause of the BPL families and ensure that LPG reaches all the people across the country and make the kitchens free from smoke and pollution.
