Mangaluru: Following several complaints by the public, the police department has decided to strictly restrict the entry of the contract carriage buses inside the city between 8 AM and 8 PM.
The decision was taken during the weekly phone-in-programme organised at the Commissioner of Police Commissioner’s office on Friday, November 2. Many callers complained that several contract carriages buses, which go to Mumbai, Bengaluru and other distant areas are parked by the roadside inside the city area. This forces the city and service buses to park on the road. Hence, there is traffic congestion and it disrupts vehicular movement. Hence, contract carriage buses should not be allowed to enter the city, they stressed.
Meanwhile, the Canara Bus Owners Association President Rajavarma Ballal informed that according to the notification of 1993, the contract carriage buses should not get entry into the city between 8 AM to 8 PM. However, it has not been strictly followed so far. There is a need to implement this notification strictly, so as to avoid traffic congestion, he added.
Responding to it, Commissioner of Police T R Suresh instructed Traffic ACP Manjunath Shetty not to allow contract carriage buses into the city between the said time. Contract carriage buses should not be allowed to enter Hampankatte, PVS circle, Bunts Hostel Circle among other key areas of the city, he said.
