Cops arrest rowdy-sheeter in shootout, head constable injured

Mangaluru: Police opened fire at a notorious rowdy-sheeter during his attempt to attack a head constable and arrested him on the late night of Thursday, May 9. The head constable is injured in the incident.

The arrested rowdy sheeter is Gowrish (29), an associate of notorious rowdy Sharan of Akash Bhavan.  The injured head constable is Sheenappa (49).  The accused Gowrish has six cases against him including three murders. Among the three murder cases, he has been convicted in one that occurred in Kavoor police station limits.

Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil said that the accused had been threatening people and extorting money from them. A team of police, following a credible information about the accused on the late night of Thursday, went to Jeppinamogaru near Prestige School and attempted to arrest him. In a bid to escape, Gowrish attempted to attack the police team. Immediately, police fired on his legs in self-defence and nabbed him along with lethal weapons. In the melee, Head Constable Sheenappa was injured and is under treatment in a private hospital.

The accused Gowrish is also admitted in a hospital for his injured, police sources said.
