Puttur: Social media is blessing or bane, it purely depends on the hands that use it. Here in Puttur, some persons widely circulated a message on Whatsapp about the travel plan of two individuals belonging to different religions. Sensing trouble, the police plunged into action and provided high security all along the route the bus was taking, just to make sure that activists of different religions do not take over the scenes.
The Whatsapp message said that a boy and a girl from different religions were travelling together to Bengaluru in a private sleeper coach bus on Wednesday night. The tone of the message was such that there was something important and immediate that needed to be done as this was a glaring case of ‘Love Jihad’.
However, when the police came to know of the message, they simply plunged into action without sparing even a second on the authenticity of the message and this reaction saved the couple from several difficulties.
As per the directions of the Superintendent of Police, personnel were deployed on vantage points where the bus was to pass and this played wonders and the bus moved out of swiftly without any pandemonium breaking out.
It is said that though some tried to intercept the bus at certain points like Mani, Uppinangady and Gundya, the policemen kept them away. The bus was on guard all the way till Sakleshpur.
Soon, messages alleging the district police of supporting Love Jihad have been making rounds.
