Mangaluru: Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath, on Wednesday, March 25, called on the delivery service providers of the city to meet him tomorrow, March 26.

Kamath has called for a meeting with the Mangaluru heads of Zomato, Swiggy, Chitki, MyRoadRunner and others at his office in the city at 10 AM.

Taking to Facebook on Wednesday, the MLA wrote, “Attention to DELIVERY Service Providers of MANGALORE. I want the Mangalore Managers of @Zomato @Swiggy @Chitki @MyRoadRunner and others similar service providers to visit my office tomorrow ( 26-03-2020) at 10 AM without fail. Need to have some important discussions.[sic]”

It can be recalled that on March 24, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called for a 21-day pan-India lockdown in an attempt to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Although the lockdown began at 12 AM on March 25, Mangaluru and eight other districts of Karnataka have been in lockdown since Monday, March 23.

Seeing that people were not taking the lockdown seriously, the district administration decided to stop people from coming out of their homes completely, unless there is an emergency, and deliver essential commodities right to the people’s doorsteps.

In a press conference on Wednesday, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that he is in discussion with officials on how the essential commodities can be supplied to the people directly at their homes.

As of 12 PM on Wednesday, the public was banned from exiting their homes to purchase necessary commodities.

Many district officials are meeting with service providers to figure out how best to aid the public and ensure that no one suffers during the lockdown.
