Mangaluru: As the world steps into the year 2018, with a zestful flavor, curtains come down on a 10-days long Karavali Utsav, organized by the district Karavali Utsava Committee at Panambur, on Sunday.
District in-charge minister B Ramanatha Rai conferred the Karavali Utsava Honorary Award on well-known Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. M Shantharam Shetty.
After receiving the award, addressing the huge crowd at the venue, Dr. Shantharam Shetty said, “Mangaluru city should reach a greater height in the country, in the process of development and cleanliness and it is also the responsibility of each and every individual to contribute to the society”.
Dr. Shantharam Shetty also opined that, the Karavali Utsava Honorary Award conferred on him has increased his responsibility towards the society.
Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil, ADC Kumar, Police Commissioner TR Suresh, Mangaluru North MLA Moideen Bhava, Mayor Kavitha Sanil and others were present.
During the 10-days of Karavali Utsava, the city was set abuzz with various activities at Lalbagh, Kadri Park and Panambur beach. With different cultural programmes like drama, talamaddale, folk and classical dances, yogasana, cartoon exhibition, yakshagana, volleyball and throw ball tournaments, and surfing.
Interestingly, people from various districts irrespective of religion, caste, creed and sect thronged to the city, to celebrate the eve of the new year in Panambur. The police also deployed tight security to maintain law and order.
