Mangaluru: Deputy Commissioner, A B Ibrahim on Monday called for a meeting at his office to chalk out precautionary measures to avoid incidents like the fireworks tragedy at Kerala’s Kollam on Sunday.
The meeting decided to implement certain rules in Dakshina Kannada district which are already implemented in Udupi district.
A committee of inspectors to inspect all fireworks manufacturing units has been set up by the Deputy Commissioner. He has directed the committee to submit a report on the safety measures of the seven manufacturing units in the district.
The DC also requested the general public to pass on any information on illegal fireworks manufacturing units if available. He said that action will be taken against those who manufacture fireworks illegally or display fireworks show without the permission of the Assistant Commissioners under the Explosive Substances Law 2008.
The provisions under which permission for fireworks display on programmes are given was reviewed by the district administration. The DC informed that the permission has to be taken submitting an application, 10 days prior to the scheduled programme date.
The application should include details of the place, photo of the applicant, NOC from the police, fire and emergency department, consent from the owner of the land, certificate of safety measures and the details of the workers in the fireworks show.
The DC said that the fireworks show ‘Puttur Bedi’ at Sri Mahalingeshwara temple will be held with precautionary measures. Fire personnel will be present all the time till the show ends. A special fire officer from Bengaluru will supervise the proceedings.
The police commissioner, DSP, officials of the fire brigade and other officials were present in the meeting.
