Decision to send stranded migrants back home to be made within 2-3 days: Kota

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary informed that a decision on sending the stranded migrants in the district back to their hometowns will be made in two to three days’ time.

Chairing a meeting organised to discuss the precautionary measures to be taken to arrest the spread of Covid-19 here on Wednesday, April 29, the Minister said that the district administration has already sent migrant labourers from all the taluks in the DK district, except the Mangaluru taluk, back to their hometowns.

“The migrant labourers who are in the MCC limits will also be sent soon. Meanwhile, there is also a plan to allow inter-district movement for those who are stranded in the district due to the lockdown. A decision in this regard will be taken in two to three days,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Minister informed that the cremation of Covid-19 victims will be conducted only at the Boloor electrical crematorium. “One should not get confused and the district administration has already taken a final decision in this regard,” he clarified.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLAs D Vedavyas Kamath, Dr Y Bharath Shetty, MLCs Ivan D’Souza, Hareesh Kumar, district in-charge secretary Ponnuraj, ZP president Meenakshi Shanthigodu, Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha among others were present.
