Mangaluru: As Yakshagana artistes have been left without work owing to the lockdown, Lions District 317 D provided financial assistance to a total of 42 Thenku Thittu Yakshagana artistes on Wednesday, April 29.
Lions District 317 D District Governor Ronald Gomes, being a strong supporter of the Yakshagana folk art, decided to extend financial assistance to the artistes. Each Thenku Thittu Yakshagana artiste received financial assistance of Rs 2,020 each.
Yakshagana troupe managers assisted in selecting the beneficiaries of the financial aid and the money was deposited into their individual savings bank accounts. The Chief Convener of Lions Yaksha Sangama organised this programme with the cooperation of the Lions members.
Lions secretary Vijay Vishnu Mayya informed that there will be a second phase of financial assistance for the Yakshagana artistes as a few more Lions members are ready to extend a helping hand to the struggling artistes.
