Mangaluru: The final rites of 67-year-old woman, who succumbed to COVID-19 was held at Boloor electrical crematorium, on Thursday, April 30 late night.

The final rites were performed by the family members of the deceased amidst tight police security and in the persence of district administration personnel.

What was to be noted that this time there was no public protest around the cremation, unlike the episodes that had unfurled when the dead bodies of first two victims were brought here for cremation.

That is because the district administration had sternly announced action against any such protests and also declared that Boloor will be the official cremation site for COVID-19 victims.

It can be noted that during the cremation of first Covid-19 victim, on April 19, the locals at Boloor objected citing the reason that virus can infect the local residents. The district administration went ahead and cremated the body here.

Similar situation prevailed when the second COVID-19 victim’s body was brought for cremation on April 23.

After going to several places, the district administration had finally cremated the body at Kaikunje crematorium.

After this experience, the district administration made a final decision on cremation of Covid-19 deaths.
