Mangaluru: Accusing the Sangh Parivar leaders of double standards and disrupting peace in the district Mithun Rai, district Youth Congress president said, “When Prashanth Poojary was murdered, a few leaders of the Sangh Parivar demanded the arrested of culprits within 24 hours. But the same leaders did not say a word when Harish Poojary was murdered. Why this double standard? Isn’t Harish a Hindu? Why the leaders declared compensation to Harish family before his rituals were done, and why was it not done for Prashanth murder case?”
He was addressing the media persons at the Dakshina Kannada District Congress Office, on November 25.
“The people of the district should not give scope for hate speeches that the political leaders make use for vote banks. Those hate speeches have made our district turn communal. Some people for their political gain are misleading the youth. As a result the innocent are being assaulted and killed. Such leaders should be barred from delivering speeches” he said.
“In the Prashanth murder case, the Sangh Parivar had demanded a compensation of Rs 25 lakh and had demanded the arrest of the murderers only because he was a member of the Sangh Parivar. But with Harish Poojary it was not, as he was not a member of any political party nor was he a member of any right wing outfit.”
“The Congress party had already given compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the family members of Harish and has assured Harish sister of a a job. The Youth Congress members have also given a fund Rs 50,000 to Harish’s family.” added Mithun Rai.
Mithun also said, “Harish Poojary has become the victim of enmity, anger, revenge and hatred. And in the near future our own children may become victims of such communal violence. We should eliminate the anger, communal revenge and hatred between communities from the mind of the youth. It is our duty to see that untoward incidents do not occur again in the district. We want the people in the district to live with peace and harmony and are not targeting any organizations. People of the district have to act wisely in order to stop the communal violence and make it a better place to ourselves and others.”
Corporators Praveenchandra Alva, Vinayraj and others were also present.
