Mangaluru: Senior physician and former vice-chancellor of Manipal University Dr. B M Hegde was conferred with the Ullal Srinivas Mallya lifetime achievement award on Saturday, January 12.
The award was presented at Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall in the presence of District In-charge Minister U T Khader, MP M Veerappa Moily, Mayor Bhaskar K among others.
Meanwhile, Ramakrishna Matt President Jithakamanandaji (social service), senior litterateur Sara Abubakar (literature), educationist Hannibal Cabral and journalist Manohar Prasad were felicitated with the Srinivas Mallya award on the same occasion.
After receiving the award, Dr. B M Hegde said, “The doctors should not earn money by wrong means. Doctors should have humanity while treating the patients which is the best medicine to heal any disease”, he informed.
After presenting the awards, Minister U T Khader said, “When Ullal Srinivas Mallya was MP, he was able to secure airport and New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) to our Mangaluru. However, efforts are going on to privatise both airport and NMPT. There is a need to fight against the anti-people programmes of the union government”, he said.
