In the second phase of the Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM-SHRI) scheme, a total of eight government schools, including three high schools, have been chosen in Dakshina Kannada (DK). This phase encompasses the selection of 245 schools across Karnataka, a significant increase from the previous year’s selections.

Last year, only two high schools were selected alongside Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and Kendriya Vidyalaya-2. This year, an additional government high school has been included, demonstrating the scheme’s expansion and impact. Notably, all schools chosen in the previous year have demonstrated exceptional performance.

In DK, 18 schools were initially shortlisted for consideration under the PM-SHRI initiative, with a total of 175 schools meeting the eligibility criteria and applying online. Utilizing the Transparent Challenge Method and expert committee deliberation, eight schools were ultimately selected from the district, contributing to the total of 245 schools selected statewide.

The chosen schools in DK under the PM-SHRI scheme are as follows:

  • Government English Medium High School Daddalakadu
  • Higher Primary School, Kodange
  • Higher Primary School, Kallabettu
  • GHPS Model KS Rao Nagar
  • Higher Primary School Kemminje
  • Higher Primary School, Uchila Gudde
  • Higher Primary School Huhakuva Kallu
  • Government High School, Vittal

Expressing satisfaction, Prakash Anchan, president of the Sarkari Shaale Ulisi Belesi Samithi (Protect and Promote Government School), lauded the scheme’s potential to reach a larger student population. He highlighted the significance of extending such initiatives to all government schools, noting previous advocacy efforts for “One Nation One Education.” Officials affirmed that the selected schools have been receiving funds and are undergoing transformations to become smart and environmentally friendly learning environments.
