Three individuals hailing from Belthangadi Taluk of Mangaluru were discovered burnt inside a car in Tumakuru district, raising suspicions of a treacherous scam involving the promise of ‘treasure,’ as reported by the police on Saturday, March 23.
Tumakuru Superintendent of Police Ashok KV revealed that the investigation team has obtained crucial leads and is on the brink of unraveling the gang responsible for the heinous act.
The bodies were found charred within a burnt car, abandoned on a lake bed in Kuchangi village, situated on the outskirts of Tumakuru town, on Friday, March 22.
“The victims were from Belthangady Taluk in Mangaluru district, Karnataka. We have acquired some leads in this case, and we anticipate cracking it soon,” stated the SP to PTI, shedding light on the ongoing investigation.
The perpetrators appear to have ensnared the trio under the guise of selling ‘treasure,’ he added.
Forensic analysis suggests that they might have been murdered elsewhere before their bodies were transported to Tumakuru and incinerated.
Additional police sources disclosed that the culprits enticed the trio with the prospect of disposing of gold ornaments allegedly unearthed during a treasure hunt, offering them at a heavily discounted price.
Trusting the perpetrators, the victims arrived at the designated location with money. However, the criminals allegedly perpetrated their gruesome act, plundering their funds, and subsequently burning their bodies along with the vehicle.
Sources further indicated the involvement of at least six individuals in the crime.
