Former chairman of the Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA), Ravishankar Mijar, launched a scathing attack on the current MUDA administration, accusing them of corruption and misuse of power. Addressing media personnel at the Mallikate BJP office on Sunday, March 24, Mijar criticized the Congress-run state government, alleging that Karnataka has been turned into an “ATM” during elections.
Mijar highlighted the recent TDR (Transferable Development Rights) bribery scandal, referencing the arrest of Mansoor Ali and other brokers by the police. He claimed that despite issuing TDR guidelines in February, no action was taken. He further accused the government of using coercive tactics, including a police raid on MUDA offices, which failed to uncover any incriminating evidence.
The former chairman asserted that while the Congress claims to be focused on reforms, in reality, it is driven by monetary gains. He expressed concern over the misuse of public funds and emphasized the need for thorough investigation.
Responding to questions about middlemen during his tenure, Mijar acknowledged the presence of such elements and highlighted efforts made to mitigate their influence, including the establishment of a help desk for citizens to access accurate information directly.
Regarding the digitalization of MUDA’s processes, Mijar claimed credit for introducing a separate online system, a first for Mangaluru.
